Ridley Scottโ€™s The Martian returns to the top of the domestic box office charts this weekend, after a lackluster showing for most other films.

The Martian earned $15.9 million, just ahead of Goosebumps $15.5. million. Steven Spielbergโ€™s Bridge of Spies also remained in 3rd place, with $11.3 million. Combined, these top three films earned $42.7 million. This is about $5 million less than the top three films last year earned, which saw Ouija, John Wick, and Fury bring in a combined $47.5 million.

The Last Witch Hunter came in 4th in its domestic debut with $10.8 million. Reports state that the film cost about $70 million to produce and has Vin Diesel in the title role. Foreign audiences could help it make up some of its production budgets.

Steve Jobs also did not perform up to itโ€™s expectations, as previous weekends seemed to indicate the film would be quite a commercial hit. It earned $7.3 million in its commercial weekend through 2,493 theaters. As did Rock the Kasbah, starring Bill Murray, and earned $1.5 million in its debut, and cost $15 million to make. Jem and the Holograms have the best chance out of all three of these films to make its money back, as it only cost $5 million to make and earned $1.3 million in itโ€™s opening weekend.

On the brighter side, Hotel Transylvania came in 4th place, earning $9 million dollars, bringing the animated sequelโ€™s domestic cume to $148 million. Sicario and The Intern also fared quite well this weekend, earning $2.95 million and $3.85 million respectively.

Here are the top ten films this weekend, as the following figures are courtesy of Box Office Mojo.

  1. The Martian: $15.9 million
