Xbox has been on quite the roll as of late. Claiming not only the entirety of Bethesda but, more recently, the entirety of Activision Blizzard, the Xbox and Microsoft team is making it clear that there is no sign of stopping for their claim on the gaming space. With so many IPs now under their belt, the team has a lot they can work with, though they aren’t forgetting their current IPs. Games such as The Outer Worlds 2, Avowed, and Hellblade 2 are just some examples of their currently active IPs. And according to Shpeshal Nick, one of the co-founders of Xbox news site XboxEra.com, credible sources have let out rumors that Xbox is working on giving another franchise the Master Chief Collection treatment.
This has, naturally, sent Twitter into a rumor-fueled frenzy with random IPs being thrown out as possible options. Two particular options stick out as not only the most guessed, but as the most likely as well. The first, and strongest case, is Xbox’s Gears of War. The series’ latest entry was back in 2019 and was very strongly received, though fans have of course been searching for more Gears of War content. And with both the second and third games stuck on the Xbox 360 (unless you count backward compatibility), not to mention being absent from PC, this would be a strong case for the older Gears of War games to get their chance at the spotlight again. That’s not even including the fact that the first game in the series has already been remastered, saving them a ton of work.
The other option which still holds plausibility is Fable. This single-player RPG series is beloved by fans so much that a reboot is currently in development. Though as far as the older entries in the series go, the last one was released in 2010 for the Xbox 360 and PC. Again, backward compatibility is available for the future Xbox consoles, though the games are certainly showing their age. A full makeover and bundle would not only revitalize the games themselves but would help garner interest and sales towards the Fable reboot in development.
Regardless of which franchise could be given this Master Chief Collection treatment, it’s important to note that this Xbox rumor should be taken with a grain of salt. While Shpeshal Nick is reputable, rumors should never be taken as fact. A little healthy speculation never hurt anyone though, right?
