With Christmas coming, what we could really do with is a light-hearted comedy to get us into the spirit. And while I’m wishing, why not have Joseph Gordon-Levitt in it; I haven’t seen him in anything for a while. Maybe starring alongside Seth Rogen as well, they seem like they’d have good chemistry. Is there a movie like that on the horizon?
The Night Before looks to answer my wish in all its particulars. Three bros have hung out on Christmas eve every year for the past fourteen years. But with life, and the responsibilities therein, mean that this fine tradition must finally come to an end. This is because Chris has become too famous to go out partying without being recognised. Meanwhile, Isaac will soon be a father, requiring Rogen’s character to adopt a more sedate lifestyle. So they decide to close this chapter of their lives with one final night of drinking and partying. This includes drugs (apparently supplied by Isaac’s wife) and access to the hottest party in New York. Of course, like any film involving Seth Rogen, things quickly become more complicated.

As the trailer says, ‘The Night Before’ is the work of the team behind ‘This is the End’, ‘Neighbors’ and, almost, ‘The Interview’. There’s not a huge amount of new footage in this trailer, but you can tell it’s a Seth Rogan film just by the dialogue.
The Night Before’s script was written by director Jonathan Levine, Ariel Shaffir, Kyle Hunter and Rogenโs writing/ producing partner Evan Goldberg. As mentioned above, Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars alongside Rogen along with Anthony Mackie as Chris, to round out the film’s ‘three wise men’.
‘The Night Before’ hits US screens on November 2oth, before hitting UK cinemas on December 4th.
