Originally mentioned by The Hollywood Reporter early Monday, writer/producer Robert Kurtzman is in the middle of developing a Star Trek TV series.

Kurtzman is the co-writer and producer of the last Star Trek filmย Into Darknessย but is not tied to the upcoming third installment of the movie seriesย Star Trek Beyond. Not only is this a return to the small screen for the classic series, the release from CBS also states that the series will be the first original content produced for CBS All Access, their online streaming platform.

The new series will blast off with a special preview broadcast on the CBS Television Network. The premiere episode and all subsequent first-run episodes will then be available exclusively in the United States on CBS All Access, the Networkโ€™s digital subscription video on demand and live streaming service.

The new show promises not just the same great space exploration, but new characters and worlds to discover. These new aspects will be shown as CBS will air the special preview episode before taking it to the online airwaves and making it exclusively available to CBS All Access subscribers.

All Access is open to any US viewer for $6 a month. While that may seem steep for a channel with just one exclusive show at the moment, CBS has also promised every Star Trek episode every created will also be up on the service sometime in 2016, in time for the series’ 50th anniversary.

From the wee age of 6 he made his way to a Canadian Tire, purchased a SNES for $200 in in-store credit money (Canadian Tire money for Canadians out there), and hasn't looked back! He loves the classics like Donkey Kong, Mario, and Roller Coaster Tycoon, but is deep into the new age of gaming with Heroes of the Storm, Apex Legends, and indies like Thomas Was Alone, and Mark of the Ninja.
