To defeat humans and other creatures that lurk in the dark, V Rising provides players with many weapons to do so. While many would love to stick to the good old reliable Sword, there are many more armaments for slicing and dicing your way through enemy ranks. However, with so many weapons in V Rising, choosing one can be overwhelming for newcomers. But don’t worry because we’ll nudge you in the right direction to pick your favorite human-slayer armament.
[Updated on May 7, 2024 – Adjusted weapon ranking, added launch version’s weapons, clarified information]
11. Crossbow
Of all the weapons in V Rising, we still consider the Crossbow to be the weakest. In its kit, there’s nothing that makes it stand out compared to others. Even with its passive bonuses, its attack speed still isn’t too great or at the same level as the Pistols or Longbow. Furthermore, while its AoE abilities are great against packs of enemies, the Pistols outshine the Crossbow with increased mobility and better area-of-effect capabilities. Still, it is a good ranged weapon to have during the early hours of the game.
10. Axe
Despite giving us the feel of a vampire lumberjack, the Axes are still in a weak spot. They have great abilities, such as the second skill you unlock, which turns Axes into chakram-like weapons, but that’s it. When it comes to gap closers for PvE and PvP situations, other weapons in V Rising perform much better. The one thing that is great about these weapons is that they can increase the usefulness of any leech effect. Pair leech with frenzy, and you can heal yourself in seconds while fighting.
9. Spear
The Spear is an interesting weapon that is quite versatile. You have decent melee range and a few useful skill effects, such as knockback and even pulling foes toward you. However, as someone devoted to a PvE playstyle, we don’t see a lot of use for this weapon. On the other hand, using it for PvP is quite good and can become an annoyance to your foes. Keep pulling those pesky vampire rivals, and they won’t escape your sanguine grasp.
8. Sword
While it is probably everyone’s first choice in V Rising, the Sword doesn’t make the cut as one of the best weapons. Still, it is great to carry you through the first hours, especially due to its whirlwind skill. You’ve no idea how many times I combined any leech effect with the whirlwind skill just to top my health up. Also, it is a great weapon to have against packs of enemies, and paired with speed-increasing abilities such as Blood Rage, you’ll be slicing yourself through anyone effortlessly.
7. Mace
When I used the Mace for the first time, I didn’t think it’d be that great outside of helping me gather minerals; I was wrong. The Mace is a fantastic weapon that boasts great damage potential. What I love about it is how great it works in PvE and PvP. Its first skill lets you jump toward enemies, slam the ground, and inflict a snare effect. Beyond that, you can also incapacitate foes with its second skill, making this a valuable weapon in any scenario.
6. Whip
While it’s one of 1.0’s new weapons, the Whip isn’t the best in V Rising, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t helpful. This is perfect for those who like ranged attacks with some melee on the side. The Whip allows you to fight up close or far away with its basic attacks, and it even has a great gap closer skill for specific situations. For PvP players, it also has an entangle effect that hits quite hard, making it highly versatile.
5. Pistols
Before the game’s full release, Pistols were the best long-range weapons in V Rising, but not anymore. While I still love their AoE skills and excellent mobility, they aren’t at the same level as the Longbow. Still, these guns are fantastic for anyone wanting to strike far and fast in the game. Pair them with Unholy magic, and you can send your undead to hit up close while you pick enemies from a distance.
4. Reaper
The Reaper is the weapon that still makes me feel like Darius from League of Legends. It hits hard, it slows enemies down, and you can even throw it to make it spin around to destroy enemies. The Reaper has it all: great single-target damage and fantastic AoE capabilities. While it might hit slower than other melee armaments, it is still a destructive weapon in the right hands.
3. Greatsword
The Greatsword is one of the top three weapons of V Rising due to its raw damage potential. It might not inflict effects like other armaments, but it is a brutal piece of work. You can charge toward your foes and send them flying or leap into the air and bring that heavy blade down. It is as flashy as it is destructive and never leaves my action bar.
2. Longbow
The new ranged kid on the block is the Longbow, and I personally consider it the best weapon in V Rising. It has an intricate Focus mechanic that enhances your skills. For instance, after getting stacks of Focus, you can cast a guiding arrow, and depending on the stacks, the arrow will hit an enemy more than once. The same happens with its AoE attack; the more Focus you have, the more arrows you launch. This is perfect for PvE encounters of PvPers who want a pure DPS build without any added effects.
1. Slashers
Even at V Rising 1.0, the Slashers are still the best weapons. These work perfectly for any situation but shine much more in PvP. Its skill that lets you dash back and forth paired with a small invisibility window is fantastic when facing rival vampires. Also, it has one of the fastest attack speeds in the game, which is great if you want to do some leeching or just slice enemies fast and disappear. Overall, this is the best armament you can have in your action bar.
Ultimately, it’s up to you to choose which weapon to bring. While we consider some of them to be the best, don’t hesitate to try them all. Who knows? The ones we didn’t like might be fantastic for you and vice versa. So, feel free to equip every single one and test them with any inhabitant of these dangerous woods.
