Klei Entertainment, the developers of the Don’t Starve series, have revealed a brand new trailer for its upcoming game, Rotwood, during the PC Gaming Show 2022. A colorful animated beat ’em up adventure, the Rotwood trailer shows off the gameplay and characters of the upcoming game, which has yet to receive an official release date. All that is known is that the Rotwood is coming to early access at some point in the 2020s, and it offers co-op dungeon-crawling action along with classic beat-’em-up action, including melee attacks and spells.
Rotwood Trailer and Release Date
Don’t Starve developer Klei Entertainment has revealed the official Rotwood trailer, its brand new upcoming beat’-em-up style game. The game allows you to choose from various anthropomorphic animals to face off against deadly monsters in action-packed, beat-’em-up style gameplay, forge equipment from their fallen enemies, and scavenge the battlefield for whatever resources can succeed.
Based on the Rotwood trailer, Klei Entertainment seems to be taking inspiration from games like Streets of Rage and using a colorful cast of characters to flesh out attacks and spells. The characters – a motley crew of animals working to save the rot-afflicted woods – each seem to have their own personalities and skills.
The description reads:
“Hack and slash your way through the Rotwood in this rogue-like dungeon crawler. Explore and fight through a labyrinthian maze of dense forest and vicious vegetation with up to 3 of your friends. Forge your path through ever-increasing challenges and rewards to bring the spoils of your adventure back and craft new weapons and armor or fortify your safe haven.”
Although it is known that Rotwood will be available for early access at launch based on the trailer, it is unknown when exactly that will be. It is simply listed as “202?” in the trailer, so it is at least coming out sometime before 2030.
