If you read my articles regularly, you probably know that I find the Terminator franchise infuriating because of the film’s tendency to blow the major twist in the trailer (a habit that goes all the way back to T2.) Upcoming films, like The Force Awakens and Batman v Superman, in contrast, are doing a superb job of preventing major spoilers from leaking prior to release. Check out the video below.

However, as the release date ticks ever closer, it’s about time to see some related media that will help to set up the movie. After all, we’ve only had Man of Steel to give us a glimpse into the state of the DC movie-verse. Given the fallout of the events of Man of Steel, it wouldn’t hurt to give us a glimpse into what’s been happening in the two years between the movies.

So, along comes the official companion novel; Crossfire. This junior novel covers the escape of Doctor Aesop from Arkham Asylum. Superman and Batman both end up investigating the escape, which eventually results in a young boy getting caught in the ‘Crossfire’ (get it?)

That’s all we’ve got to go on, in terms of plot, for now. However, we can take a few educated guesses as to how it ties into Batman V Superman. Most obvious is the fact that ‘Bats’ and ‘Supes’ will not meet face-to-face. I can’t really see them directly encountering each other, given their dramatic clash in the movie. It’s also possible that seeing Batman’s handiwork in this, may be what starts Clark investigating Batman’s ‘one person reign of terror’. There is, also, the fact that the novel will, apparently, show Batman active; even though he’s supposed to come out of retirement in the film itself.

There is, also, the question of how canonical the events of this novel will be to the DC movie-verse at large. After all, the Phantom Menace’s official novelization is now being considered ‘non-canon’. So, maybe we should just stop worrying and enjoy the story.

‘Crossfire’ will be released on February 16th.
