Unova Stones are Evolution Items in Pokémon GO used for evolving particular species of Pokémon. Similar to the rest of the Evolution Items, such as the Dragon Scale or Sinnoh Stone, Unova Stones are extremely rare, making them tricky to obtain. Fortunately, the appearance of these items is not tied to any time-limited event like the TCG Crossover. Accordingly, it is possible to get a Metal Coat at any time during one’s playthrough in Pokémon GO. Regardless, the chances are still slim, meaning that grinding and the fortune of RNG are required to acquire this Evolution Item.

Getting A Unova Stone In Pokémon GO

To get Unova Stones in Pokémon GO, Trainers must spin Pokéstops to achieve the repeatable “7 Day Streak!” accomplishment. To complete this feat, players must interact with a Pokéstop at least once for seven days. On the seventh day, players have a small chance of receiving a Unova Stone as one of the rewards in Pokémon GO.

Fortunately, 7-Day Streaks are not the only means of acquiring Unova Stones in Pokémon GO. Trainers can also fulfill Special Research Quests for a slight chance of receiving Evolution Items. Special Research tasks are available during live events and within the normal in-game story content. This is not the most reliable method of acquiring Unova Stones, but it is an activity that Trainers should keep an eye out for. Another source of Unova Stones in Pokémon GO is the rewards players receive after defeating one of the Team GO Rocket Leaders, including Cliff, Arlo, and Sierra, and the mastermind himself, Giovanni. To encounter or be confronted by one of these Leaders, Trainers must defeat regular Team GO Rocket Grunts to acquire their Mysterious Components. After collecting six, players can combine the Mysterious Components to create a Rocket Radar, a device used for pinpointing the location of a Team GO Rocket Leader.

Once Trainers have acquired a Unova Stone in Pokémon GO, they can use it to evolve the following Pokémon below:

  • Pansage: Type: Grass | Evolution: Give Pansage Candy ×50 and a Unova Stone to obtain Simisage
  • Panpour: Type: Water | Evolution: Give Panpour Candy ×50 and a Unova Stone to obtain Simipour
  • Pansear: Type: Fire | Evolution: Give Pansear Candy ×50 and a Unova Stone to obtain Simisear
  • Lampent: Type: Ghost and Fire | Evolution: Give Lampent Candy ×100 and a Unova Stone to obtain Chandelure
  • Minccino: Type: Normal | Evolution: Give Minccino Candy ×50 and a Unova Stone to obtain Cinccino
  • Eelektrik: Type: Electric | Evolution: Give Eelektrik Candy ×100 and a Unova Stone to obtain Eelektross
  • Munna: Type: Psychic | Evolution: Give Munna Candy ×50 and a Unova Stone to obtain Musharna

Pokémon GO is available on iOS and Android.
