BB-8 Droid from a 3D Printer?  It seems that there’s no limit to what 3D printing can accomplish. From food preparation to printing out tools, a former Ubisoft employee has now reached a new level by 3D printing a remote controlled BB-8.

Inspired by the news that the ‘Force Awakens’ mascot had been created using practical effects rather than CGI, J.R Bedard decided to try his hand at creating his own version.

While not quite the do-anything robot it’s onscreen counterpart is, Berdard’s BB-8 is impressive to say the least. According to Live science.com;

“Recreating the round bot took a “3D printer and lots of patience,” according to Bedárd, who said he spent about 50 hours building his BB-8 droid. The replica Bedárd created is only half the size of the real BB-8, but he used 656 feet (200 meters) of white plastic filament to 3D-printthe eight parts that make up this smaller version.”

Bedard noted that he would like to create a version that doesn’t use a set of self-balancing wheels like his current model does. Ideally, he would also like to make the head magnetic so it could shift around like the onscreen BB-8 does. But for now, he can certainly be proud with his creation as it is.
