Paramount has shifted the nationwide release of Babylon with Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt. Announced today, the film, directed by Damien Chazelle (La La Land), was set for a limited run on Christmas and goes everywhere on January 6. Now, it will hit theaters on December 23.

Date pushes, whether forward or backward, are coming across Hollywood, making the nationwide release of Babylon not to be alone. Marvel Studios recently made moves with Blade, Deadpool 3, and Avengers: Secret Wars. Sony delayed A Man Called Otto from this Christmas to January 2023. It leaves for a busy holiday season this year with Avatar: The Way of Water, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, and I Wanna Dance With Somebody.

Babylon starring Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt sees nationwide release moved up

Chazelle has been known for films about music, La La Land and Whiplash, but now he is turning to look at the film industry. The film looks at the transition from silent movies to talkies. The film is described as “The Great Gatsby on steroids.” The director will write and direct the upcoming historical comedy-drama.

With the nationwide release of Babylon, we will see major stars alongside Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt. The film’s all-star cast will also include Jean Smart, Tobey Maguire, Olivia Wilde, Samara Weaving, Eric Roberts, and Jeff Garlin.

Oftentimes, movies aiming for an Oscar have released on Christmas and release everything at a later date, often at the top of the next year. The Babylon nationwide release sees a rare move, but it still sticks in the season for movies gunning for the award ceremony. As Chazelle has had his streak, it won’t be a surprise if the film gets a nomination. His adapted screenplay for Whiplash and original screenplay for La La Land were nominated. He won for directing the musical that starred Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling.
