Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam hit theatres this weekend. Despite some less-than-stellar reviews from critics, the film opened at number one with $67,000,000 at the domestic box office. The film fared a little better on the international markets with a $73,000,000 opening, accounting for 52.1% of its total. Black Adam earned $140,000,000 worldwide this weekend, including the Thursday night showings.

Many fans will notice that Black Adam earned Dwayne Johnson his largest box office opening as a leading man. Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam currently holds a 40% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. On IMDB, the film has a 7.2/10.

Black Adam is the latest DC Films entry. Jaume Collet-Serra directed the film. Black Adam was a dream project for Dwayne Johnson, which is why he was so involved in it beyond being the star.

Besides Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, this was a relatively quiet weekend at the box office. Ticket To Paradise was the only new film to debut in the top ten. It opened to the tune of $16,340,000. The Horror movie, Smile fell to number 3 in its 4th week, while Halloween Ends fell to number 4 from its prior number 1 position with $8,000,000 for the weekend, representing an 80% drop from its opening weekend Box Office. While it should be noted that fans can also stream Halloween Ends on Peacock, much of the decline can be blamed on the largely negative reviews.

Also, The Woman King continues to hold firm at the Box office. The Viola Davis-led film came in at number 6. This is the film’s 6th week in theatres. Don’t Worry Darling, which came out the week after The Woman King, fell to number 8 with under a $ million for the weekend.

Considering the success of Black Adam, we’re sure there will be a sequel at some point. It may not be the critical darling the star hoped it would be, but he’s proud of the high audience score.
