The Watering Can is vital for crops, but an upgraded one can do more to help you in the Valley. Thankfully, it is possible to do this without going too far into the game. We’ll show you what you need to do to upgrade the Royal Watering Can.

Upgrade the Royal Watering Can Tool in Disney Dreamlight Valley
In Disney Dreamlight Valley, you’ll come across several items that will benefit your journey. For gardening purposes, you need the Royal Watering Can. Once you acquire it, you can upgrade it twice to make it even more helpful.
So, What Can the Royal Watering do? Well, it waters the crops. Watering the crops will consume 25 Energy.
However, once you upgrade the Royal Watering Can in Disney Dreamlight Valley, the tool can do more than that. Upgrading the tool requires you to interact with Merlin. The steps you have to go through are listed below:
- Raise Merlin’s Friendship Level to 8
- Complete “A Dark Experiment” Quest
- Raise Merlin’s Friendship Level to 10
- Complete “The Final Trial” Quest
To raise Merlin’s Friendship Level, remember to give him gifts and assign him roles to spend time with him. When you get to the level you need, you will unlock “A Dark Experiment.” This quest will give you the first Royal Watering Can upgrade in Disney Dreamlight Valley.
For this quest, gather the following materials for Merlin:
- x20 Mushroom
- x5 Emerald
- x3 Purified Night Shard
Bring everything to Merlin, and he will give you the first Royal Watering Can upgrade. He’ll direct you to remove small sections of big Mushrooms. To complete the quest, remove 3 of them and return to Merlin.
Now, the upgrade allows the Royal Watering Can to always remove those big Mushrooms that can block off areas in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

Next up is the final permanent upgrade for the Royal Watering Can.
To get this, we’ll continue to raise Merlin’s Friendship Level to 10. Also, you must unlock WALL-E. Once those prerequisites are met, you’ll unlock “The Final Trial.”
For this quest, you’ll need to craft x5 Purified Night Shards. From there, speak to WALL-E and then speak to Merlin. Next, you’ll have to gather these ingredients:
- Falling Water
- Ice Heart
- x25 Mushroom
We’re closer than ever to the final permanent Royal Watering Can upgrade in Disney Dreamlight Valley.
Continue through the quest, which includes crafting the Royal Watering Can Upgrading Ointment. Bring this to Merlin, and he’ll enhance your Watering Can again. He’ll direct you to remove a Big Path-Blocking Mushroom. After you do it, talk to Merlin to complete the quest.
Finally, you have done both permanent upgrades for the Royal Watering Can. You can remove the various patches of Mushroom overgrowth found in the Valley, particularly in the Glade of Trust biome.
