Chandelure was recently revealed as the newest Pokemon to be competing in Pokken Tournament. As a ghost type, it’s battle style and moves are appropriately frightening… except they aren’t. Chandelure’s voice actor and the music playing during the video feel more like a circus act than anything else. The trailer is for the Japanese version, so it’s possible the western release will feature different voices.

As a contender, Chandelure fights mostly with the flames on its arms, wheeling them around and jabbing with them for combo hits. It also appears to be quite dodgy, swaying back and forth and using Minimize to make itself harder to hit. It also comes with a few ranged moves to zap retreating enemies. Basically, what it lacks in fear factor, it makes up for with sneaky tricks.
Ghost types have always been more or less the “dark side” of the Pokemon universe. The Chandelure line is just as wicked, stealing the life force of other living things as Litwick before eventually burning away their spirit in its fully evolved form. If Nintendo wanted to add a fun, silly character to the game, Drifblim would have made a far better choice. As a balloon, it fits the fun house/circus theme very well and is probably the least scary ghost type there is.
