The different game modes for the upcoming Wii U title Pokken Tournament have been announced. Ferrum League is a mode exclusive to the console and allows players to unlock additional stages and support Pokemon. There are four levels in this mode: Green, Blue, Red, and Chrome. Various other trainers besides the player will appear, such as Nia, who trains Weavile and acts as a sort of guide for the player.

Other game modes include a training mode which removes restrictions such as time limits for the player to practice as much as they wish. A free play mode exists where the Pokemon can engage in regular non-story mode battles (think the Smash mode from Smash Bros.), and finally, a dojo where players can learn a variety of combos to use in battles. Together with the Ferrum League, Pokken Tournament presents two fighting modes and two practice-style modes.

Pokken Tournament also has a trainer customization feature called My Town. Here, players will be able to choose a gender (obviously), hairstyle and color, clothing, and other options. This mode sees players spending in-game currency, called Poke Gold (PG), to unlock certain options.

Other support Pokemon pairs include Cubone and Diglett who use Bonemaranfg and Dig, Quagsire and Magneton with Mud Ball and Tri Attack, and Espeon and Umbreon who use Morning Sun to heal and Snarl to disrupt the opponent. Lastly, Pokken Tournament will be compatible with all Amiibo accessories – every figure and every card.

The tournament begins on March 18, 2016.
