It’s easy to mistake simple graphics for a simple game, but Terraria possesses deeper levels than you’d ever suspect. A game as rich in complexity as this 2D survival hit can be difficult even before you crank up the actual difficulty. Terraria‘s hard mode, however, goes beyond simply adding health to mobs until they’re full-fledged Marvel villains. It adds new materials as well, allowing you to craft all new items needed to survive the added dangers. One such valuable material is Soul of Night, useful for crafting a variety of items. Here’s how to get Soul of Night in Terraria.

The only way to get the Soul of Night in Terraria is by playing Hard mode. Even in this mode, there’s no guarantee you’ll get it easily, however. You’ll need to go deep underground to get the Soul of Night. To be precise, you’ll need to look in the Underground Corruption and Underground Crimson layers. Enemies have a 20% chance of dropping a Soul of Night in these places. Once you get it, there are many uses for it. Here are some of the things you can craft in Terraria with the Soul of Night:

  • Cursed Flames (Spell Tome, 20 Cursed Flames, and 15 Souls of Night)
  • Cool Whip (8 Souls of Light, 8 Souls of Night, and a Frost Core)
  • Demon Wings (10 Feathers, 20 Souls of Flight, and 15 Souls of Night)
  • Magical Harp (Harp, 20 Crystal Shards, 8 Souls of Night, and 15 Souls of Sight)

You can craft many more items with these Souls, and they are all quite powerful. Given how these layers are some of the deepest ones, gathering there can be difficult. For that, make sure you’re well-equipped before trying to farm any enemies down there. Now that you know how to get Soul of Night in Terarria, you can go ahead and try your luck in the deep. Doing so is dangerous but quite rewarding. Just watch out for stalactites and monsters.
