The Witcher 3: How To Get Red Mutagens

Gotta get that power

Red Mutagens in The Witcher 3
This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information.

Red Mutagens are Alchemy Ingredients inย The Witcher 3ย that players will need for various concoctions or adding an attack power bonus to Geralt’s stats. However, unlike Flowers, Herbs, or even Monster Parts, the source of Red Mutagens is moderately vague. At the start of the game, the tutorial will introduce newcomers to Mutagens but will not go into depth about their procurement. Whether you are trying to brew Alghoul and Reliever’s Decoctions or attempting to craft higher-tier Mutagens, knowing how to acquire Red Mutagens is vital toย bolstering Geralt’s monster-slaying capabilitiesย and progressing the game, especially on higher difficulties.

There are two primary ways to get Redย Mutagens inย The Witcher 3. The first involves killing specific monsters and receiving the mutagen as a random loot drop. The second method is crafting Red Mutagens, a mechanic introduced at the release of theย Blood and Wineย expansion.

Finding a Red Mutagen in a Monster Nest in The Witcher 3

Archgriffins, Dopplers, Greater Foglets, Katakans, Nekker Warriors, Succubi, Water Hags, Werewolves, and Wyverns are good monster-drop sources of Red Mutagens inย The Witcher 3. Remember that killing one of these beasts does not guarantee the mutagen; instead, there is but a good chance that you will find one on the mob’s corpse once it has been slain. Drowners and Ghouls can also drop Red Mutagens. A great place to farm Drowners would be the Whale Graveyard of Skellige, where many of these fiends spawn.ย

Alternatively, you can craft Red Mutagens by combining other color Mutagens with specific ingredients. For instance, a Lesser Blue or Green Mutagen becomes a Red Mutagen when mixed with Rubedo and Winter Cherry. However, the formulas for crafting Mutagens are only available once Geralt has reached Toussaint of theย Blood and Wineย DLC. The merchant in Hauteville sells the recipes for Mutagens.
