Loving Vincent

At first glance, no one would suspect Loving Vincent to be hand painted animation but it is – all of it. Loving Vincent has claimed to be the first, fully-painted film using oil canvases as the main subject of the visual effects.

Originally a Kick-starter project back in 2014, Loving Vincent has finally released the progress of what the feature film will be about – along with stunning, visual animation. Under the development of two companies, Breakthru Films and Trademark Films, they have pieced together a remarkable tale told through 20 character. These 20 or so people are paintings created by the brilliant artist Vincent Van Gogh and talk about how their lives were affected by the man himself. In order to tell the story correctly, Breakthru Films acquired 800 letters directed at Van Gogh explaining about his life and other related events.

The cinematography of the feature film also used 180 of the still framed pieces from Van Gogh to capture the essence of his work. In retrospect, the team of artists formed together to recreate exact, replicas of the paintings to gather a more immersive experience through watching the film. Although there has been no new information regarding the release date, but what has been announced was the year it would be coming out – which supposedly is 2016.
