You can do and build a whole lot in Mojang’s ever-popular survival crafting game. Many players utilized their creativity to conquer obstacles and create structural marvels. However, sometimes, you just want to create simple things to relax in the virtual world. One such piece of furniture that’s often made by Minecraft players to spruce up their bases is an Umbrella stand. While you cannot craft it as a carryable item, thankfully making Umbrella in the game is quite easy.
Minecraft: How Can You Craft an Umbrella? Explained
[Updated on September 8 – Added more details and new images]
There is no readily available Umbrella item in Minecraft. Instead, you have to jerry-rig it by using 3 crafting materials:
- Fences.
- Carpets.
- Strings.
We will now explain the entire process of building an umbrella. First, stack up at least three blocks of Fences to make the stand. Once that’s done, put the Carpet color of your choosing on top of the Fence blocks.
Now, you may think you can stack more Carpet sheets to the side. Unfortunately, unlike stacking Blocks, you cannot easily do that. Instead, you want to put a circle of Strings just below the topmost Fence block. It will support the other Carpets to make a full-size Umbrella.
Wrap the string around the base until you have made a full circle around it then put more Carpets on top of them. The String is the best choice here as it is almost invisible to the naked eye, but you can also use other supporting material.
Make sure all the Carpet sheets rest atop the Strings. In the image above, we use a mix of red and white Carpets, but you can create your own unique pattern. After all the item can be dyed in any of the 16 colors: from blue, black, to moss-colored. Make sure you use vivid colors to make your umbrella stand out in Minecraft!
Do keep in mind that you can place more items on top of your Umbrella, but it will float. As the game cannot have more than one item inside one block space. To recap, here’s how you can make Umbrella stands in the crafting game:
- Stack up Fences three blocks tall.
- Put a Carpet on top of it.
- Wrap Strings a block below the Carpet.
- Put more Carpets on top of the Strings.
- Rinse and repeat.
Once you are done building an Umbrella in Minecraft, it is time for you to relax for a bit. Add a Bed or makeshift chairs underneath it and marvel at your creation.
