With the slew of new Killers added in Dead by Daylight, it’s easy to forget the classics. However, The Wraith remains a fun Killer to run. He doesn’t have insanely difficult skills to understand, which makes him both easy for new players and adaptable enough for seasoned players. If you want to make the most of The Wraith, you will need the best builds for him in Dead by Daylight. We’ll address a variety of builds so you can play around until you find one that works well for your style.
Best Builds for The Wraith in Dead by Daylight
The Wraith is one of the base Killers from its initial release back in 2016. Long-time players might have already tinkered around with him, but those new to the game can stand to learn how he plays and his perks. He can easily become a fun and favorite base Killer despite the minimal difficulty there is with using him.
Let’s not get into the best builds for The Wraith in Dead by Daylight just yet. Rather, let’s check out his unique perks:
- Predator: Scratch Marks from Survivors will spawn slightly/moderately/considerably closer together.
- Bloodhound: Pools of Blood are highlighted in bright red and you can track them for 2/3/4 seconds longer than usual.
- Shadowborn: Your Field of View increases by 9/12/15 degrees.
The Wraith also features a power known as Wailing Bell. It’s a Cloaked effect that also gives you an Undetectable effect and increases movement speed.
With knowledge of his power and perks, we can soon create the best Dead by Daylight builds for The Wraith. Some of these builds will focus on beginners or those who just want to use the base perks. Other builds will take advantage of all the perks you get from the free and DLC Killers.
Best Beginner Builds for The Wraith
Simple builds can still work out well with The Wraith. The one below does well at keeping track of Survivors. So, bring only Bloodhound from The Wraith to pair with these:
- Whispers (General): Hear whispers from The Entity when at least one Survivor is within 48/40/32 meters of you.
- Sloppy Butcher (General): Basic Attacks cause Hemorrhage and Mangled effects. Bleeding frequency increases by 50/75/100%. The regression rate of partial Healing Progression lost through Hemorrhage increases by 15/20/25%.
- Hex: No One Escapes Death (General): Activates when the Exit Doors are active and there’s still a Dull Totem on the map. Your movement speed increases by 2/3/4% and Survivors permanently suffer the Exposed effect.
The “The Hound” – Soot add-on is useful since it allows Pools of Blood to appear bright red while you’re cloaked. Meanwhile, “Windstorm” – Mud helps keep you moving fast while also cloaked.
Some of the best Dead by Daylight builds for The Wraith focus on both Survivors and Generators. It’s a good way to maintain the pressure, and you don’t need any perks from The Wraith. Instead, use these:
- Sloppy Butcher (General): Increase Bleeding by 50/75/100%. Cause Mangled and Hemorrhage with Basic Attacks, and increase regression rate of Healing Progression lost by 15/20/25%.
- Jolt (General): When you down a Survivor with a Basic Attack, Generators within 32 meters of you explode and regress. There’s a Progression penalty of 6/7/8%.
- Thanataphobia (The Nurse): For each injured, downed, or hooked Survivor, all Survivors are struck with an Action Speed penalty stackable at 1/1.5/2% up to a max of 4/6/8%. It’s increased further by 12% if all 4 Survivors are injured, downed, or hooked.
- Tinkerer (The Hillbilly): Once a Generator is 70% repaired, you get a loud noise notification and the undetectable status for 12/14/16 seconds.
With this build, you will want the “Blind Warrior” – White add-on that gives Mangeld and Hemorrhage effects to Survivors hit with a Surprise Attack.
Best All-Perks Builds for The Wraith in Dead by Daylight
If you have access to all the Killer perks in the game, you can enjoy some heavier builds.
For this build, we don’t want perks from The Wraith. Auras are key here as this build helps you get into chases quicker:
- Barbecue & Chilli (The Cannibal): When you hook a Survivor, all Survivors at least 60/50/40 meters away have their aura revealed for 4 seconds.
- Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance (The Artist): 4 random hooks change to Scourge Hooks at the start of the Trial with white auras. Hooking a Survivor on one causes the Generator with the most progression to explode and lose 9/12/15% of its progression. Survivors on the Generator will scream too.
- Discordance (The Legion): Generators within a range of 64/96/128 meters being repaired by at least 2 Survivors are marked with a yellow aura. A loud noise notification is also triggered.
- Infectious Fright (The Plague): If a player is downed, all Survivors in your Terror Radius scream and reveal their location 4/5/6 seconds.
If you want to keep moving fast in a chase, use the “Swift Hunt” – Blood add-on to reduce Uncloaking time and “Windstorm” – Blood to increase Cloaked movement. This is a good time to utilize your Cloak power mid-chase.

For players who want the best Dead by Daylight builds for The Wraith with a focus on Generators, use the following:
- Eruption (The Nemesis): Activates when you damage a Generator. All affected Generators are highlighted yellow, and when a Survivor is downed, they explode and regress. There’s also a progression penalty of -10%. Survivors will scream and reveal their aura for 6/8/10 seconds.
- Overcharge (The Doctor): Applies on a Generator once you damage it and a regression speed increase from 75% to 200% for 30 seconds. The next Survivor that touches it has a difficult skill check and failing causes a progression loss of 3/4/5%.
- Dead Man’s Switch (The Deathslinger): Activates for 20/25/30 seconds once you hook a Survivor. If a Survivor stops repairing an unfinished Generator, The Entity blocks it until the perk effects end. These Generators feature a white aura.
- Call of Brine (The Onryō): Activates for 60 seconds after you damage a Generator. Said Generator has a yellow aura and regresses at 150/175/200% of its normal speed. If a Survivor hits a good skill check, you get a loud noise notification.
“Shadow Dance” – Blood is an excellent add-on cause it increases your speed of damaging Generators, breaking walls and pallets, and vaulting while Cloaked.
These builds for The Wraith are fun as they pile on the pressure. But if you’re new and don’t have access to everyone yet, the beginner builds won’t hurt.
