How To Use Kelvin in Sons of the Forest

No Kelvin, stay away!

Unlike the first game, The Forest, in this sequel, the protagonist does not go alone, and Kelvin is one of the most remarkable characters accompanying the player. When the game was released, Kelvin won the internet’s hearts for his interactions, especially for the memes. However, in reality, he is a character that you can use to your advantage. This sometimes clumsy NPC can help you a lot in your adventure in Sons of the Forest, but do you know how to use Kelvin’s help or if he can die? Does he need food or sleep?

Since the accident that caused the player and his new companions to end up stranded on the strange island, Kelvin lost his hearing. So when you need Kelvin’s help, you must approach him to interact, but instead of talking to him directly, a notepad will appear on your screen. In the beginning, you can only ask Kelvin to Follow you, but as the game progresses, you will unlock more commands, such as:

  • Get an Item and deliver it
You can ask Kelvin to pick up a specific material. But you can request him to take it to a location, give it to you, or follow you to where you want to drop it off.
  • Build
You can ask the NPC to build traps, shelter, a campfire, and more.
  • Stay
Kelvin will stay, or you can order him to hide.
  • Take a break
We recommend that you let Kelvin rest sometimes, but otherwise, he will take a nap or sit and relax occasionally. There will be times when he is not willing to help you because he is tired. He will also find his own food and water, so you don’t have to worry about feeding him.
  • Clear (5/10/20 meters)
In Sons of the Forest, Kelvin can’t fight and may even die. So, this command is for him to clear the terrain where you want to make your base. Kelvin will cut trees or pick up materials that will facilitate the gathering for the construction.

At the beginning of the game, Kelvin will make your life much easier by dividing the efforts to finish your first shelter before the first night and the game’s monsters arrive. He can be in charge of collecting and maintaining the shelter or building upgrades. But because of his lack of hearing, Kelvin, you can’t use him to fight against the mutants of Sons of the Forest. The battles should depend entirely on you and you alone. Don’t risk Kelvin taking him into dangerous areas, or he might not return.
