By now, Pokémon GO players are used to hearing about Go Tour: Hoenn Global Event. There is much to do between February 25 and February 26, 2023. That includes the Special Research: Chasing Legends. Not everyone immediately has access to it, though, as it does have a prerequisite. We’ll show you everything about Chasing Legends Research in Pokémon GO so you can complete tasks and gain all the rewards.
Chasing Legends Research and Rewards in Pokémon GO
Before you can embark on these new tasks, you must have done the Primal Rumblings Research tasks. This is because, at the end of it, you choose between Ruby and Sapphire teams. This decision plays a role in what rewards you get now.
Chasing Legends Research has six steps worth of tasks in Pokémon GO that can give you a variety of rewards when you complete them. There is no real deadline once you start. However, these tasks might be easier if you do them during the Go Tour: Hoenn event weekend. It begins at 10 AM (local time) on Saturday, February 25, 2023, and ends at 6 PM (local time) on Sunday, February 26, 2023.
Chasing Legends also asks that you choose three paths: Cacnea, Gulpin, or Surskit. It changes what Chasing Legends Research tasks you must complete in Step 2 and the Pokémon GO encounters. There is also a difference depending on if you are on Team Ruby or Team Sapphire. Ruby gets Primal Energy for Primal Groudon, and Sapphire gets it for Primal Kyogre.

Step 1: Chasing Legends Research and Rewards
Tasks:
- Power up Pokémon 15 times (3 Incense)
Rewards:
- 5 Kyogre Candy
- 5 Groudon Candy
- Absol Encounter
Choose Cacnea, Gulpin, or Surskit paths.
Step 2: Chasing Legends Research and Rewards in Pokémon GO
The tasks below will vary depending on your chosen path after Step 1.
Tasks:
- Use Incense (Cacnea, Gulpin, or Surskit Encounter)
- Catch 5 Cacnea, Gulpin, or Surskit (Cacnea, Gulpin, or Surskit Encounter)
- Catch 10 different species of Pokémon (Cacnea, Gulpin, or Surskit Encounter)
Rewards:
- 30 Poké Balls
- 5 Ultra Balls
- 2 Premium Battle Passes
Step 3: Chasing Legends Research and Rewards
Tasks:
- Spin 15 PokéStops or Gyms (Plusle Encounter)
- Explore 1km (Solrock Encounter)
- Catch 10 Fire, Grass, or Ground-type Pokémon (Trapinch Encounter)
- Catch 1 Groudon (Volbeat Encounter)
Rewards:
- Castform (Sunny form) Encounter
- 10 Groudon Candy
- *200 Groudon Primal Energy*
*You only receive the Primal Energy if you chose Team Ruby.*
Step 4: Chasing Legends Research and Rewards
Tasks:
- Spin 15 PokéStops or Gyms (Minun Encounter)
- Explore 1km (Lunatone Encounter)
- Catch 10 Water, Electric, or Bug-type Pokémon (Wailmer Encounter)
- Catch 1 Kyogre (Illumise Encounter)
Rewards:
- Castform (Rainy form) Encounter
- 10 Kyogre Candy
- *200 Kyogre Primal Energy*
*You only receive the Primal Energy if you chose Team Sapphire*
Step 5: Research and Rewards
Tasks:
- Activate Primal Reversion (1 Rocket Radar)
- Defeat a Team Go Rocket Leader (3 Revives)
Rewards:
- 1 Charged TM
- 1 Fast TM
Step 6: Chasing Legends Research and Rewards
All that is left is to claim the rewards:
- Claim Reward (2,023 XP)
- Claim Reward (2,023 Stardust)
