Clark Kent’s ‘disguise’ has been the subject of mockery for years; to the point that people often don’t bother commenting on it because they assume everyone knows how ridiculous it is. After all, Superman flies all around the DC universe without a mask. How is a pair of glasses supposed to throw everyone off the scent? Even Christopher Reeves’ masterful acting skills couldn’t make it work outside of a movie. Or so we thought; it turns out Superman’s current actor, Henry Cavill, disagrees.
That’s right; mere days before his next movie comes out, one of the most hotly anticipated superhero movies of the last few years, Henry Cavill hung out in the heart of New York. And he wasn’t recognised either. The degree of difficulty here is worth summing up. Henry Cavill’s face is known worldwide; whether you loved it or hated it, Man of Steel was big news. People have been seeing his face constantly in trailers and publicity for BvS as well. And let’s not ignore that he’s wearing a superman shirt and standing across the street from massive billboards with his face on. By comparison, wearing glasses and baggy clothing seems like an airtight disguise.
As Henry Cavill, quoted by the Huffington Post, puts it;
“Dear Doubter, The glasses are good enough. Regards, Superman #WhoWillWin #Superman.”
