No matter what moves your Pokémon can learn via leveling up or evolving, some moves must be taught via TM. In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, you can discover a healthy variety of TMs throughout the open world. Once you have the crafting recipe, you can even head to a Pokémon Center and make more of them. Fly is one of those moves that you wish other Pokémon knew, but thankfully, you can teach them. We’ll show you how to find TM097 Fly in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

How to Get TM097 Fly in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

How to Get TM097 Fly in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Fly is a classic Flying-type move that can help a Pokémon avoid damage on its first turn and then inflict its own attack on the following turn. Unlike other games, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet only uses it as a combat move rather than a way for you to fly around the map.

Still, it’s a helpful move, and you would think that a lot of Flying-type companions would know it already. Unfortunately, no one knows it by default in this game.

Also, only a handful learn it from leveling up, and only one, Salamence, learns it through evolution. For other compatible companions, you will have to get TM097 Fly if you want them to learn the move in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

There are two ways that you can unlock access to TM097:

  • Find it in the Overworld
  • Defeat Team Star Poison Crew

If you defeat Team Star Poison Crew, you will immediately unlock access to the crafting recipe for TM097 Fly.

However, if you find it in the Overworld first, you unlock access and instantly gain one TM097 to teach a Pokémon without crafting it.

In the Overworld, head to West Province (Area Two) and look on the cliffs as indicated in the image above.

Once you have the recipe, you can begin your journey for the materials to craft TM097 Fly. Below is everything you will need:

  • 5000 LP
  • x3 Rufflet Feather
  • x3 Bombirdier Feather
  • x3 Squawkabilly Feather

For Rufflet Feather, battle Rufflet or Braviary. These Pokémon are found in the following locations:

  • Glaseado Mountain
  • The Great Crater of Paldea
  • Tagtree Thicket
  • East Province (Area Two)
  • North Province (Areas One-Three)
  • South Province (Areas One-Four, Six)
  • West Province (Areas One, Three)

Next, to craft TM097 Fly in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, you need Bombirdier Feather. This comes exclusively from Bombirdier. Look for them in these areas:

  • West Paldean Sea
  • South Province (Area Six)
  • West Province (Areas One, Three)

Lastly, you need Squawkabilly Feather from Squawkabilly. They only hang out in East Province (Areas One-Three).

Now you can teach Fly to a host of other Pokémon companions like Charizard, Drifblim, Noibat, and more.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is available on Nintendo Switch.
