Ahoy, fellow adventurers! Brace yourselves to defeat the Scourge of the Sea in Octopath Traveler 2.

The Scourge of the Sea is an optional but inevitable boss that blocks off the eastern side of the ocean with a treacherous whirlpool. While you’ll receive a warning before the battle begins, don’t let your guard down – this boss packs a serious punch that can take you by surprise. But fear not, for the reward for vanquishing this beast early on is access to the coveted Arcanist special job, found in an area with a danger level of 45. Ideally, you’ll want a party of roughly level 45 to take on the Scourge of the Sea in Octopath Traveler 2 with confidence, but for the brave and battle-savvy, victory can be achieved sooner.

Be prepared for a grueling fight, as the Scourge unleashes a barrage of attacks that will test your party’s resilience. Hunters and Scholars will prove most useful in breaking the boss’s shields, while a Warrior like Hikari can deal massive damage early on. Keep your party healthy with reliable healing, and let’s dive into the fray.

To achieve this, you can use heavy hitters like Hikari, Ochette, or Osvald with buffs and debuffs for physical or magic damage. You can also rely on party members like Partitio and Castti, who can give BP to exponentially boost damage potential.

During the fight, the Scourge of the Sea in Octopath Traveler 2 will be vulnerable to different elements and weapons as follows:

  • First shuffle: Daggers, Bows, Lightning, Dark
  • Second shuffle: Spears, Axes, Bows, Fire, Ice
  • Third shuffle: Sword, Fire, Ice, Lightning

The Scourge of the Sea is a boss fight with a unique gimmick: the Starboard Straight move. It will temporarily remove two party members from the fight, but your remaining party members can still carry on. However, if they die while the others are removed, you’ll lose the fight.

the Scourge of the Sea in Octopath Traveler 2 will occasionally hit your party members with status ailments, such as Terror and Confusion, but it’s not necessary to plan specifically around them. Otherwise, it’s a standard boss fight. Break its shield and hit it hard with boosted damage. While it can remove three party members later in the fight, you can prevent this by keeping the pressure on and quickly draining its shield.

Octopath Traveler 2 is available on the Nintendo Switch.
