Speedrunners of the survival horror game, RE4, already made quick work of the game’s recent remake. The game with its updated mechanics did not outrun the speedrunners in finding ways to complete the game at record speeds, showcasing their skills and dedication to CAPCOM’s remake. Resident Evil 4 speedruns are now the new craze.
RE4 Speedruns Are A Thing Now
Resident Evil 4 speedrunners are already dominating the newly released remake, suggesting that the game will be a popular speedrunning category that rivals the original 2005 version. Even though the game was released less than two weeks ago, it has already sold well enough to be considered one of the most successful games of 2023.
Although most speedrunning communities will remain closed to RE4 speedrun submissions until mid-April, these standard practices allow moderator teams time to decide on specific rules and categories while players are still getting to know the game.
It was announced by Speedrunner.com, the largest speedrunning website on the internet that the run submissions will be accepted no late than April 14.
Based on recent runs posted on Twitch and YouTube, some speedrunners are already hard at work to ensure that the first wave of RE4 speedrun submissions is impressive. It seems the first official world record for an Any% Standard run will be around 2 hours.
Popular speedrunner Maxylobes disclosed that this sum of best level times is already at 2:12. This specific format has benefitted from an early discovery of a scope glitch that lets players skip the first Garrador fight and other obstacles involving locked doors.
Speedrunners are practicing both glitchless and glitch-reliant speedruns of the RE4 Remake, with impressive times being achieved in both categories. YouTuber WolfDNC posted a glitchless run taking over 3.5 hours, citing room for improvement due to mistakes. The run had various techniques, including a trick to skip the “Goat Head” section.
However, it is still unclear if Capcom, the distributor of the game, will patch the glitch but both types of runs are being honed for competition.
