With the release of Honkai: Star Rail just around the corner, many fans are excited to try out the new HoYoverse game for the first time. However, with so many characters revealed so far, newer Trailblazers may have a difficult time setting their sights on a particular character. For those who have played Genshin Impact and no other Honkai Impact game, some of Honkai: Star Rail characters may present similarities to Genshin characters through playstyle, personality, or design. Alongside this, a beginner’s banner with some wonderful starting characters will also be included, allowing new players an easy place to start with rolling.
Any player familiar with Genshin Impact understands the concept of rolling, or warping, as it’s called in Honkai: Star Rail. In a Gacha game, players will obtain resources for a chance to get random rewards from a banner. For example, this is how most new Honkai: Star Rail characters will be obtained. In a sense, this system is like using virtual currency to gamble for a chance to get a character. Specific groups of characters will be available during certain patches. Each collection of rewards is referred to as a banner. To help Genshin Impact players decide which banner to save resources for, here are some Honkai: Star Rail characters that Genshin Impact players will enjoy.
5. March 7th
Genshin Impact fans will be familiar with the archetype that March 7th fills in Honkai: Star Rail. Acting as a guide to the protagonist, complete with a bubbly personality, a bow, and an obsession with dolls, March 7th bears some striking resemblances to the Genshin Impact character Amber. Though many are worried that March 7th will fade into obscurity as the story progresses and newer characters are introduced, which is what happened to Amber, it is a bit too early to tell just how much of an impact she will have on the whole story. Possessing the Ice Element and the Preservation Path, March 7th is a character that excels at freezing enemies and shielding allies. Additionally, she is free to all players and available very early in the game.
4. Silver Wolf
Although possessing no close counterpart in Genshin Impact, Silver Wolf is a character that Genshin fans have been unable to enjoy in the game’s fantasy setting, a high-tech hacker. Though her name and design resemble some previous Honkai characters, to Genshin-only players, she is something completely new, unlike anything Genshin Impact offers. This character is a great change of pace for those who are really enjoying the style change and looking for a character with things like video game references. Honkai: Star Rail players get a chance to use Silver Wolf’s Quantum Element and Nihility Path briefly in the game’s tutorial missions. Eventually, her banner should be available to own permanently on a run sometime in the game’s future.
3. Seele
Possessing a Quantum Element and the Hunt Path, Seele is a veteran member of Belobog’s underworld. Using a scythe as a weapon, Seele excels at dealing massive amounts of single-target damage. For Genshin Impact players, Quantum is an interesting new element to explore, unlike anything the game offers. Although Silver Wolf also possesses this typing, currently, Seele is the first character to receive a limited banner run in Honkai: Star Rail. This means that players have the chance to roll for her and add her to their teams right now.
2. Jing Yuan
Jing Yuan, the Xianzhou Alliance’s Cloud Knights general in Honkai: Star Rail, possesses the Lightning Element and the Erudition Path. As a character, Jing Yuan can shock enemies and deal large amounts of AoE damage. Besides featuring an extremely appealing design, many fans were excited to hear Jing Yuan’s voice actor is the same as Cyno from Genshin Impact. The characters also share similar weapons and fighting styles, meaning Cyno fans should keep an eye out for Jing Yuan.
1. Clara
Finally, Clara is a small orphan girl protected by an ancient mech named Svarog. Clara has the Physical Element and the Destruction Path for playstyle, similar to Honkai: Star Rail’s protagonist. Although players will already have an opportunity to explore the Physical Element with their starting character, Clara offers a distinct design and play style that, much like Silver Wolf, would be impossible to see in a Fantasy game like Genshin Impact. Additionally, Clara is available in the beginner banner, Departure Warp, which guarantees her or another 5-star rarity character after 50 rolls. This blend makes her the perfect character for Genshin fans to try out if they get the chance.
