It seems that the release date of Sony’s PlayStation 5 Pro might be a lot earlier than expected because some rumors suggest that Sony plans on shipping some PS5 Pro dev kits pretty soon. The new and improved PS5 Pro dev kits will apparently only be sent to Sony’s own first-party developers only. How much more powerful will the new console be? That remains to be seen.
The initial rumors of a PS5 Pro being in the works kicked off around March of this year, and some reports even said that the console was far along in development. Needless to say, Sony has not officially announced anything related to the PS5 Pro; patents have a tendency to blow up whenever they’re found. And some patents by Mark Cerny from Sony suggested that Sony is aiming to improve ray tracing performance with its future titles.
PS5 Pro Dev Kits Shipping Soon to First-Party Developers
The PS5 Pro is in active development, according to Insider Gaming, and Sony plans on sending dev kits in only a few months. This means that game development should start off for the upcoming console way sooner than expected. Third-party developers will not be getting any dev kits at this point in time but will likely get their hands on the PS5 Pro dev kits before the end of this year.
The most important question on the mind of PS5 owners is that does it even make sense to have a Pro model right now. The reason being the PS4 had a lot more exclusive games that warranted a Pro upgrade, but since the current generation has been pulling the last generation along by making most games cross-gen, a PS5 Pro doesn’t seem as good of a prospect as the PS4 Pro did.
Rumors also suggest that the release date of the PS5 Pro is somewhere around the end of 2024. Sony also has some sort of a handheld planned for the near future as well.
