This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information.

Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3 gave us a bit of hope for the return of one of our favorite characters from the original group. However, the ending wasn’t exactly the one we’d have predicted for Gamora. The daughter of Thanos made her return in Guardians 3, but do we get to see more of Gamora in the MCU phase 6? There are possibilities of course, which we’ll dive into after a quick recap of what happened to this Zen-Whoberi warrior.

What Happened To The Original Gamora in The MCU?

After leading the Guardians of The Galaxy team to take down Thanos who was in search of the Reality Stone in Avengers: Infinity War, she is caught by her father. Thanos then takes the girl to Vormir to claim the Soul Stone, which requires the sacrifice of a loved one. Thanos, being a loving dad with 0 attitude for caring, throws his beloved daughter off the cliff, killing her to reach the stone.

That was the end for Gamora. Or was it? Gamora returned to the MCU in the Avengers: Endgame through time travel. This was a 2014 version of the character, and she certainly doesn’t know the Guardians members at all. And that’s where Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3 comes in, where she joins the Ravagers, and leaves the Guardians team behind for good. Now while Gamora is alive and fine in the latest events of the MCU, the question of whether she returns or not is still a hot debate.

Will Gamora Gamora Return To The MCU?

The answer is a mix of yes and no. Yes, Gamora might return to the MCU in What If…? Season 3, or other Marvel Studios projects involving the multiverse. And no, she won’t be back on the big screen due to what the original actor had to say about returning as Gamora.

Zoe Saldana has confirmed that she thinks the time has come for her to “step down and leave the role for the next generation“. However, speaking with The Playlist, she still thinks that “Gamora is not gone for good“, making us hope for her return to the MCU. This would mean that she would no longer play Gamora, but she hopes that some other actress take on the role.

Now this is frankly not the best thing for Marvel Studios to recast a beloving Guardians of The Galaxy member. But, even if they do consider this as an option, there are probably 3 possible futures for the return/end of Gamora in the MCU:

  1. Marvel Studios welcomes a new actress on the scene for the role.
  2. Nope, it’s over, they won’t be returning the 616 Gamora to the MCU at all since she became a total side character by the end of Guardians 3.
  3. Zoe Saldana comes back?! I mean, it’s Marvel Studios, and even Robert Downey Jr. is back; so, could this be it? Nobody knows. Maybe just a brief cameo in Secret Wars or other MCU projects.
