Capcom’s most recent financial report to investors includes a mysterious tease to the company’s plans for the future of the Resident Evil franchise.
Found by NeoGAF user Chobel, the Capcom Investor Reports hints at a “full-scale offensive” for the long-running series. The reports indicate the release of at least two new games, one of which will be the upcoming Umbrella Corps, before the end of the financial year on March 31, 2017:
“In the fiscal year ending March 31, 2017, the Company is scheduled to release […] Resident Evil Umbrella Corps (for PlayStation 4 and PC) of the Resident Evil series, which marked its 20th anniversary in March 2016, as warm up to the full-scale offensive planned for the second half of the year.”
As of now, there are two announced RE titles in the works, the remake of Resident Evil 2 and a promised seventh entry. Umbrella Corps is a multiplayer strategic-shooter, set a few years after the events of RE 6, it will release June 21 for the PS4 and PC.
Despite strong sales from the main entries in the series, the spin-offs have often performed much weaker. The remake of RE 1 having only sold 1.2 million copies despite RE 6 selling a respectable 6.4 million.
