Cosmo The Spacedog is in Guardians of The Galaxy 3 as a part of the Guardians team. However, this puppy is very different and has passed cosmic waves to get superpowers! She’s a super dog, in a way. Here’s everything you need to know about Cosmo in the MCU and her comic-book origin.
Spoiler Alert: The following content spoils the story of the Guardians of The Galaxy Volume 3.
Who is Cosmo The Spacedog?
First appeared in the Nova #4 comic, Cosmo is inspired by the real-life Soviet Spacedog, Laika. Soviets send Cosmo to space during the cold war, and he gets out of the Earth’s orbit just to get to Knowhere! And yes, it’s him in the comics, while Cosmo is a girl in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
On his way to Knowhere, Cosmo is affected by the cosmic waves and gains telekinesis powers plus physical enhancements. But when he gets to Knowhere, Nova is already in there fighting off zombies! It’s from this location, and after defeating the zombies, Cosmo gets along with the Guardians of The Galaxy and helps them until the team is disbanded.
Cosmo then creates a new team called the Annihilators, which has Phyla-Vell, and Silver Surfer. This probably resembles something similar to the second post-credit scene of The Guardians of The Galaxy 3.
Cosmo in The MCU and Guardians of The Galaxy Movie Series
The origin of Cosmo has some changes in the MCU. Here, Cosmo is a she and still has those telekinesis powers. She’s first seen in the Guardians of The Galaxy 1 movie in the Collector’s collection. However, Knowhere and the Collector’s location are later raided by Thanos, resulting in Cosmo’s escape.
Cosmo is seen in the Guardians of The Galaxy: Holiday Special as a part of the team, and she’s later revealed to be a part of the team in Guardians of The Galaxy 3. In the recent movie, we see her using her powers to move things, but unlike the Cosmo in Marvel Comics, her eyes won’t turn blue.
Who Plays Cosmo in The Marvel Cinematic Universe?
Cosmo is played by dog actors Fred and Slate, and Maria Bakalova is her voice. Cosmo does have an important role in Guardians of The Galaxy 3, but she doesn’t talk that much. However, as of what we saw from her in the GoTG 3’s post-credit scene, it seems like we’ll see a lot more of her in future MCU projects.
