You can get Thunderwing Butterflies in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom at the following locations:

  • Thunderhead Isles
  • Faron Grasslands

However, what you need to know is that these little monsters can be found only when it rains. These rare butterflies have an insulating compound in their organs that can be used to make Electro Elixir, which then grants electrical resistance. Because of this, they can roam free and unaffected when there is rain and thunderstorms in Hyrule.

Nevertheless, you will need to be careful when approaching Thunderwing Butterflies as they tend to flee when scared. This is the future that most of the critters in Hyryle have. Due to this, you need to creep up on them. Use your sneaking ability to sneak up on them, but instead of attacking them, press A to take them into your inventory.

Now, to make the Electro Elixir, you will need any monster part and a Thunderwing Butterfly. You can use simple monster parts and even those that are rarer, but they will provide the same result. If you want to increase the longevity of the elixir, you will need to put several Thunderwing Butterflies. For instance, one Thunderwing Butterfly will give Link two minutes and 30 seconds of electro resistance.

For the Electro Elixir, in addition to Thunderwing Butterflies and Monster Parts, you will need a cooking pot or a Zonai Portable Pot since a simple cooking area is not enough.
