Spider-Punk in Across The Spider-Verse
This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information.

His name is not Peter Parker, nor Miles Morales. But still, he’s considered one of the coolest Spider-Men in Marvel’s multiverse! He is Spider-Punk, and he shows up in comics and in Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse. But do you know his origin and backstory? This Spider-Man is a lot different from the other variations. And here in this post, we’re going to dive deep into details to explain who is Spider-Punk in Across The Spider-Verse movie.

Hobart Brown is the Spider-Punk in Earth-138. He appears in Across The Spider-Verse as one of the Spider-Society’s members. And he is the one who teaches Miles Morales to use his venom blast to his full potential. But do you know Spider-Punk’s origin? Let’s find out!

Spider-Punk is created by Dan Slott and Olivier Coipel. And he first showed up in issue #10 of The Amazing Spider-Man in November 2014. Now Hobart “Hobie” Brown is a variant of the Prowler in the main comics Marvel universe (Earth-616). But in his alternate timeline, things are different, and a radioactive spider bites Hobart. Speaking of different happenings in timelines, though, Spider-Punk’s timeline was once in the darkest of times.

Spider-Punk’s origin seems to be all the same in Across the Spider-Verse and in Marvel comics, and he is, in fact, the leader of the Punk Rock rebellion. In Earth-138, Norman Osborn develops the V.E.N.O.M, or in other words, Variable Engagement Neuro Sensitive Organic Mesh. Those who are infected with this VENOM obey anything their owner says. And that’s how Norman Osborn defends himself against the Spider-Punk and the protestors with riots.

But what is VENOM’s weakness? The sounds! Now that’s why Spider-Punk is known for his electric guitar in the comics and Across The Spider-Verse movie. Spider-Punk uses his guitar to beat the cops and the President himself, leading a rebellion that changes Earth-138’s future.

What Are Spider-Punk’s Powers in Across The Spider-Verse?

Basically, he’s a Spider-Man, just like Peter Parker and other variations of him. But the way he uses his powers is a bit different. Spider-Punk is a lot more aggressive than the original Spider-Man, and most of his other variants. This means that if he has to kill a guy, he will! Just like he smashed his guitar in Norman Osborn’s head to end his days as the filthy President.

Spider-Punk can stick to surfaces, and he shoots his webs with a web shooter. But he uses his guitar to amplify his attacks and even plays it to stun the enemies. He also has Rock Punk spikes on his head while wearing custom that can injure his opponents.

And there you have it! You are now familiar with Hobart Brown as the Spider-Punk, and his backstory. But do you want to know more about the Spider-people in Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse? Check out our introduction post about Spider-Man 2099 and his powers from the link below!
