How To Get Scattered Prisms in Diablo 4

Unlikely to drop, but not impossile

One of the many ways to improve your character in Diablo 4 is through the use of Scattered Prisms. Imagine you find a weapon with godrolls and improve it further with masterworking. You can go a step further by adding a socket using Scattered Prisms. Unfortunately, they’re hard to come by. I have good news, though: there are a handful of ways to get Scattered Prisms to drop more frequently and, in some cases, 100% of the time in Diablo 4.

Diablo 4: Where to Get Scattered Prisms

[Updated May 27, 2024 – Rewrote, added, and clarified information]

Let’s cut right to the chase. If you want to farm Scattered Prisms in Diablo 4, you need to tap into these sources:

  • Killing treasure goblins
  • Killing the Butcher
  • Defeating world bosses
  • Seasonal reputation board (e.g. Iron Wolves)
  • Ripping and tearing through demons, especially elites

Out of the listed sources, only two are guaranteed to drop Scattered Prisms: the Butcher and world bosses. Of course, the Butcher is a rare occurrence, so that leaves world bosses.

World bosses do present a problem of their own since they only spawn every 3.5 hours (Wowhead’s world boss counter is good for keeping track). On World Tier 1 and 2, world bosses drop a single Shattered Prism but two and three on World Tier 3 and World Tier 4, respectively. Because it’s guaranteed, world bosses are one of, if not the best way to get Scattered Prisms in Diablo 4.

What do you do in the meantime? Well, you can run Nightmare Dungeons, slay demons during Helltides, even The Pit. All three frequently spawn elite demons and bosses to slay. You may even cross paths with treasure goblins, who have a 30% to drop Scattered Prisms on World Tier 4.

There’s one last source I want to touch on before you go: the reputation board. Every season so far has had one, including Season 4. The Iron Wolves, for example, reward the Iron Wolf Vanity Chest, which contains a Scattered Prism, a reward that can be farmed on multiple characters.

When you finally do get a Scattered Prism in Diablo 4, hold onto them. Don’t waste them on low-level gear. Only use them on gear that has an item level of 925, which won’t drop until you’re on World Tier 4.
