The Master Sword is well known for being the legendary weapon of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, but is it breakable?. Even with the weapon degradation mechanics, you might expect a weapon with that background to be invincible. The Master Sword is easily one of the best weapons in the game, contending with just about any others you find. With all of that in mind, can the Master Sword break in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom?
Is the Master Sword Breakable in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom?
The Master Sword does not actually break in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom per se, but it will be unavailable momentarily. Like other weapons, it has a durability that fades away with the more hits it lands on enemies. The difference between it and other weapons is that when it “breaks,” it just disappears for a little bit. After ten minutes, it will return to your inventory automatically. The game will alert you when it has been restored.
The closest you get to the Master Sword breaking is during the main story. After Ganondorf breaks it with the Gloom, Link will have the broken-down blade for a little bit. It will be transferred to Zelda, at which point Link will have to go through the Dragon Tears quest to get it back.

After you obtain the Master Sword again, it can be improved with materials. Using Fuse, you can increase the damage it outputs and add elemental effects to it. You will want to fuse materials from fire, electric, or ice enemies to get those effects. The items obtained from the dragons can also give those useful boosts.
Since the Master Sword is so important to the series, this is the only melee weapon in Tears of the Kingdom that cannot be thrown. However, if you are at full health and hold and release R, Link will shoot out a beam of energy. This still affects the Master Sword’s durability but gives it a ranged attack.
We recommend using the Master Sword in about the same way you would use any other melee weapon. If you have a good material you want to attach, go for it. Adding to the damage is great, especially when fighting Gloom Spawns and Phantom Ganon. It gains a damage boost just for fighting the Gloom directly.
