Diablo 4 achieved a fantastic launch, and it’s already Blizzard’s fastest-selling game ever. The game was anticipated for a while, and it started releasing beta programs this year. There are many things made correct, some of which make the game unique. Both player and critic reviews are mostly positive, but there’s one thing we can’t ignore talking about it. The game started having disconnect issues and connection problems, causing the players to lose their progress. Fortunately, the developers said the first official words, and here’s what we heard from them.
Diablo 4 Devs Fighting Against Disconnect Issues
In this week’s Blizzard developer podcast called Campfire, the developers answered questions about connectivity problems. The team is claiming that a big patch is on the way, and it will contain 13 pages of changes, including bug fixes and optimizations. They also mentioned a solution to keeping the hardcore players’ progress:
“We have already a mechanism in the game that allows players to escape from boss fights that has very strict controls on it, called the Scroll of Escape. Because it has these controls in terms of being consumable and being a rare drop, this is the place where we want to add disconnect protection.”
“Basically the way this will work is: if you get disconnected, for any reason, if you have one of these Scrolls of Escape it will trigger even though you weren’t there to trigger it, and it will teleport you to town.”
You might not face disconnect issues on every single session of Diablo 4. But it’s scary for the hardcore mode players. In that mode, you only have one chance to stay alive; your character will be open to threats when disconnected. It’s not clear when the patch will go live, but the team wants to release it before season one’s launch.
