Azuki made an announcement regarding the worldwide release of the English-translated Mecha-Ude: Mechanical Arms manga adaptation. This release, however, excludes Japan, South Korea, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. The manga is set to debut on July 2, with subsequent chapters being released every Wednesday. Yoshino Koyoka, known for their work on Aria the Scarlet Ammo, launched the manga adaptation on the LINE Manga and eBookJapan services in September 2022.
The Mecha-Ude: Mechanical Arms project’s production team released a pilot anime video in May 2019, followed by an English dub. The opening theme song, “Ambivalent,” was performed by Eve, while the ending theme song, “Alone,” was performed by AZLiGHTZ. It is unsure if the Mecha-Ude: Mechanical Arms manga will be on any other platform.
Azuki and Mecha-Ude: Mechanical Arms: From Kickstarter to Reality
The original Kickstarter campaign, held from October to November 2016, successfully raised 67,918 USD. Additionally, a Japanese Campfire crowdfunding campaign concluded in March 2018, surpassing its initial goal of 2 million yen (about 18,700 USD) with a total of 4,849,500 yen (about 44,000 USD).
Azuki describes the anime story as:
“Kitakagami City is a pretty normal town… except that some people have gotten their hands on Mecha-Ude: powerful, sentient mechanical beings attached to the limbs of their hosts. Middle school kid Hikaru accidentally activates Alma, a mysterious Mecha-Ude with no memory of his past. He forms an unlikely connection with the talking arm. But where did Alma come from? And why are shadowy secret organizations and corporate assassins with deadly Mecha-Ude of their own suddenly chasing Hikaru down, hell-bent on stealing Alma? Hikaru and Alma must learn to work together to uncover the truth behind Alma’s identity and prevent him from ending up in the wrong hands (or on the wrong arm)!”
In September 2022, Pony Canyon announced the production of a new “full-scale” anime series. Okamoto is the producer with TriF Studios. Soon after, Koyoka launched the manga adaptation in Japan. Anime Expo will host the world premiere of the anime’s first episode on July 2 at 2:30 p.m. PDT.
