Hollywood’s intrepid adventurer has come a long way since that giant boulder. He’s also apparently aged well, as Harrison Ford is getting ready for a fifth Indiana Jones outing in 2019. Ford will be 77 years old by the time the movie comes around. Though it hasn’t been officially confirmed that this will be the last of Indie’s movies to star the original actor, it’s hard to imagine him acting in another one after this. That being said, the end of Ford’s Indy career is very likely to be the conclusion to the long-beloved series itself.
Indiana Jones 5 will once again be directed by Steven Spielberg and composed by John Williams. Spielberg recently had an interview with THR regarding his career, and Indiana Jones 5 came up during the conversation. The famous director didn’t say much about the movie, however. “The one thing I will tell you is I’m not killing off Harrison [Ford] at the end of it.” That’s reassuring. In fact, Spielberg has been quite determined that Indiana Jones should be played by Ford, and Ford alone. “I don’t think anyone could replace Harrison as Indy, I don’t think that’s ever going to happen. It’s certainly not my intention to ever have another actor step into his shoes…”
No plot details or supporting cast have been leaked as of yet, including the possible appearance of Dr. Jones’s son Mutt. What is known is that David Koepp is currently working on the screenplay, and fans are eager to see how Indy’s adventures will ultimately conclude. Lobbing hate on Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls, and on sequels in general, seems to be a continuing bandwagon trend. But with even Speilberg himself not entirely happy with the fourth movie, Indy 5 looks much more promising as the director will likely have greater headway to work his familiar action movie magic.
