The Star Wars franchise has finally released the new official trailer for Ahsoka. Now, fans have a better look at Rosario Dawson’s titular character as she hunts down Grand Admiral Thrawn (who is actually shown in the trailer). Alongside Ahsoka are Sabin Wren (played by Natasha Liu Bordizzo) and General Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). The trailer dives right into the action.
With a growing New Republic, mysterious dark Force users, and a team of rebels pursuing Thrawn, it looks to be on a much larger scale than the previous franchise shows. The stakes are at an all-time high, and Ahsoka is right in the middle of the action.
Star Wars: Ahsoka: Callbacks and Easter Eggs Everywhere
The official Ahsoka trailer opens with Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati going onto a New Republic vessel. Following a monologue about an oncoming war, Baylan says that he and Shin “are no Jedi.” As the trailer goes on, it’s revealed that Shin and Baylan are also looking for Thrawn. Elsbeth, who Ahsoka defeated in season 2 of The Mandalorian, has a star map that can lead them straight there. Skoll believes that Thrawn has unprecedented power, and Ahsoka later can be seen fighting him on a cliff in a supposed battle for the map. With this confrontation, Baylan also appears to know who Ahsoka is. He mentions, “Anakin spoke highly of you,” but that jab about her past doesn’t seem to do much to waver Ahsoka.
This new Ahsoka trailer is also the first time since the New Republic fleet has officially been seen onscreen. Their purpose is unclear at the moment, but it’s still cool to see the capital ships and CR90 corvettes. There is also a new look at Hera Syndulla, a rebel for the Rebel Alliance. In Ahsoka, she has a new goal of preventing another war before it starts.
One of the most fan-favorite reveals from the official Ahsoka trailer has to do with Sabine. It’s revealed that Sabine Wren was formerly Ahsoka’s apprentice. As she confides in Hera, Ahsoka is adamant about asking Sabine for help. She is ultimately convinced, leading to a tense exchange between the stubborn student and her master. It’s also believed that Sabine needs some convincing from Ahsoka. More intriguingly, it looks like Ahsoka is still harboring some guilt and emotional trauma after Anakin and her quitting the Jei Order. Without a doubt, this emotional conflict will be one of the main points of the series, giving Ahsoka a big arc to overcome.
Ahsoka, Sabine, and the Rebels
From the trailer, it looks like they meet in the same place more than once. It’s also believed to be a pivotal moment for Sabine. She can be seen kneeling before her Mandalorian helmet and cutting her hair. The scene is eerily similar to the one of Kanan Jarrus before his death, framed and lit the same way.
Sabine then watches a hologram of Ezra Bridger, who talks of the necessity of making selfless decisions as a Jedi. However, this message differs from the one Ezra shared with the Ghost crew in the Rebels finale. If Sabine was a training Jedi under Ahsoka, Ezra might have started the process before disappearing. It’s heavily implied that finding Ezra will be a big plot point in the show.
One of the biggest teasers from the official Ahsoka trailer has to do with the infamous sound of Darth Vader’s breathing. As Baylan talks to Ahsoka before their big fight, the comment about Anakin is followed by the sound of Darth Vader breathing. It’s subtle enough to go unnoticed, but it’s still enough to tease an appearance from Vader at some level.
Star Wars: Ahsoka will be available on Disney+ on August 23rd.
