There has been a lot of speculation about the nextย Call of Dutyย and whether it will come out in 2023. And after so much guesswork, Activision has essentially confirmed the next game in the franchise. Many rumors suggested that this year might not see a new addition to the seriesย with all the turmoilย Activision and Microsoft had been dealing with. As it turns out, Sledgehammer Games is working on the next entry, the name of which hasn’t been disclosed, but there is corroborating evidence that suggests it might beย Modern Warfare 3.
Some images were leaked, allegedly from a prerelease version ofย Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3,ย but those were all promptly taken down. This inadvertently gave the leak legitimacy and made aย Call of Dutyย release in 2023 more likely. And since the news had already broken, Activision decided to officially talk about itย through a playful tweet.

The pseudo-announcement confirmed that not only is a new Call of Duty game on the way, but it will also allow players to carry over their equipment from Modern Warfare 2 to the new game. This makes it very likely that the following title will be a continuation of Modern Warfare 2, which is likely Modern Warfare 3.
But even so, it is essential to understand that this has not been officially confirmed asย Modern Warfare 3. And even all the “evidence” should be taken with a grain of salt. No exact date was given for a reveal event. Still, a following tweet did mention that a detailed announcement is coming soon.
