The Souls-like genre grows day after day due to the immense number of titles out there. While FromSoftware is still the company that rules the market and one that puts out the best games of this type, other companies have dipped their feet and tried to make their own. Gunfire Games has proved that its latest Remnant 2 game is a fantastic Souls-like game that doesn’t need to be extremely difficult to capture the genre’s essence. If you want to feel the void that games like Elden Ring left, Remnant 2 is a fantastic choice due to its easy-to-follow narrative, engaging combat, excellent gunplay, and more things we’ll discuss.

Many genre purists will quickly say Remnant 2 isn’t a proper Souls-like game, but that isn’t right. While FromSoftware has established the ground rules for these types of games, no one says they must follow them to perfection. Take Elden Ring as an example; even if it’s one of the more accessible Souls-like games the original developers have made, not all players have managed to finish it. At the same time, many people don’t understand the story and lore of it either. On the other hand, Remnant 2 fixes many of these things by making them more accessible and straightforward.

Anyone who has played titles like Sekiro or Bloodborne might feel Remnant 2 is extremely easy, but that’s one of the highlights of this title. The fact that it can be so accessible to people is one of the things that has made Remnant a big franchise. We’re not saying the aforementioned titles’ gameplay is not well-designed; they are some of the best-reviewed games, yet Remnant 2 is a perfect starting point for those looking to dips their toes in the Souls-like genre.

Is Remnant 2 Enjoyable After Playing FromSoftware Games?

Of course, it is! One of the best parts about Remnant 2 is how easy it is to follow its narrative. While FromSoftware has included some linear stories in games like Sekiro, the other titles are still a bit hard to follow. Ultimately, you’ll end up focusing on fighting more than anything else, not that it is bad. That’s one of the biggest elements of Souls-like games, and Remnant 2 delivers. Yet, how Remnant 2 presents its story and gameplay will make Souls-like veterans feel right at home. While it doesn’t have the in-depth melee combat as other titles, this game has one of the best gunplay mechanics we’ve seen.

Now that we’ve mentioned gameplay, it still blows our mind how engaging a Souls-like game like Remnant 2 can be with guns. If you didn’t play the first title, you might think you’re in for a looter-shooter experience, but you won’t loot as often as you might think. The guns you get and buy are there to carry you through vast chunks of the game until you get something better. This, again, is something fantastic that makes the game easier Souls-like and will attract players who are too afraid of trying titles of this genre. If that wasn’t enough, the adjustable difficulty levels make this game even more accessible for newcomers.

Not at all — if you compare it to titles like Sekiro or Demon’s Souls, it can feel easy, but that’s the thing: it is meant to be accessible. However, once you start exploring the plethora of enemies each planet has and how well-designed the bosses are, you’ll see this game is easy. But it’s no stroll through the park. Anyone will still feel challenged when playing, as every enemy has its gimmick that will test your mettle and improve your skills. Plus, the fact that there are many worlds with diverse enemy types offers the opportunity to practice different strategies for combat.

While it might be easier in some aspects, we recommend people give a change to the latest Remnant 2 game and treat it as a Souls-like. After many titles launched from the genre, Remnant 2 sticks its landing and is here to stay. It is easier to follow in many aspects and has several systems that are great for long-time fans of this genre. Yet, ultimately, how complex a game is will depend on you. Some people might breeze through it, while others might spend considerable time navigating a dungeon.

That’s a wrap on why the latest Remnant 2 game is an “easy Souls-like,” but it shouldn’t matter. If you have yet to play any titles of this genre due to fear of losing too often, start with this one. This is one of the best entry points to these types of games we’ve seen in years, and it is a must-play if you like the genre. Besides, the gunplay is fantastic, and every encounter is perfectly crafted to challenge players while also letting them progress without having them stay in a place for too long.

Remnant 2 launches on Early Access on July 21, with the full launch on July 25 on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC.
