Souls-likes are known for their bleak and unforgiving worlds, but Remnant 2 brings something cuter to the table: a dog. The dog is a unique part of the Handler archetype, acting as your faithful companion in and out of battle. However, having a dog may not seem like a unique ability in a world filled with magic and monsters, but this powerful pooch more than pulls its weight. Whether you’re teaming up with friends or tackling the game solo, the dog might be your best and most enduring companion.
Why the Dog Is Everyone’s Best Buddy in Remnant 2
Handlers specialize in using their canine companion to tackle any situation. Remnant 2 can throw at them. By tapping or double-tapping the ability button, the player can send their dog to attack enemies or recall it to their side. Remnant 2 can be tough, and having an extra body on the front line to tank hits will save your life. Thankfully, this determined pup always gets up to fight again, no matter how ugly the battle gets. In fact, Handlers should make learning how to command the dog one of the first things they do.
Players can take on Remnant 2 solo or in co-op, and the dog plays a unique role in both scenarios. When playing with friends, the Handler can use the dog to distract enemies, buy time for tanks and DPS characters to reposition, and act as a last-second shield to save squishier teammates from certain doom. That said, it’s in solo that the dog truly shines. The Handler can switch the dog between three stances (Guard, Support, and Attack) on command. These allow the dog to draw aggro, heal the player, or increase the player’s DPS. This grants Handlers a surprising amount of viability when going it alone in Remnant 2.
The Canine Cure for Loneliness
The dog might be the best co-op partner a player could ask for. After all, this dutiful companion never gets everyone killed by going rogue and can even revive downed players. Plus, the dog is much more receptive to head scratches than most co-op partners. Like most souls likes, Remnant 2 revels in its imposing, violent world, and going it alone can be a grim experience. Having a dog along will lift the player’s spirit no matter how many times a boss beats them down. Through filthy asylums and the burnt city ruins, the dog never falters. It’s just two best friends making their way through a twisted world. That companionship is worth more than mere stats ever could be.
