Coming off his Halloween trilogy, David Gordon Green is preparing to deliver a new horror trilogy based on an iconic franchise. Universal has delivered the trailer for The Exorcist: Believer and has set a date for its sequel (seen below). The upcoming trilogy’s first film will be released in theaters on October 13. Its follow-up, Deceiver, will scare audiences on April 18, 2025.

The film will follow Angela (Lidya Jewett) and her friend Katherine (Olivia Marcum), who go missing for three days. After being found, they start to act strange. Slowly, their parents and other people in their community realize something more sinister is happening. A support group is formed, including the original film’s Ellen Burstyn, who reprises her role as Chris MacNeil from the 1973 movie to save these possessed children. In the trailer of The Exorcist: Believer, we see how the girls transform from innocent 12-year-olds into terrifying demonic beings.

The cast will also include Jennifer Nettles (The Righteous Gemstones), Leslie Odom Jr. (Glass Onion), Ann Dowd (The Handmaid’s Tale), Raphael Sbarge (Once Upon a Time), E.J. Bonilla (The Old Man), and Okwui Okpokwasili.

The trailer of The Exorcist: Believer sees the start of a similar path Gordon Green took when helming his Halloween trilogy. Just like how Jamie Lee Curtis reprised her role of Laurie Strode in the Michael Myers saga, this movie brings back an original star with Burstyn. And like Halloween and its sequels, Believer will retcon the franchise. After summoning four sequels since its release, this film will erase that history, leaving only the original and what’s to come.

The director will also be a co-writer with Peter Sattler (Broken Diamonds). Executive producers include the director, Danny McBride, Stephanie Allain, Couper Samuelson, Christopher H. Warner, Ryan Turek, and Atilla Yücer. Producers include Jason Blum, Julian Lawitschka, Nate Meyer, David Robinson, James G. Robinson, and Jennifer Scudder Trent.
