Recruiting Hirelings in Baldur’s Gate 3 is like hiring a party menu to stick around indefinitely. Instead of going out into the world to find and recruit them to your party using your charismatic abilities, you can purchase them from an old Skelly named Withers in your camp. Having access to Hirelings can save you loads of time and effort. Though, it may lighten your coin pouch relatively fast. Keep reading to learn more about how to recruit Hirelings from Withers in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Where To Find Withers in Baldur’s Gate 3

Before you can recruit a Hireling to join your party, you’ll need to find and unlock an NPC called Withers. He is relatively easy to locate in the early stages of your game. When you enter the Dank Crypt, you should head to the Northernmost area, where a large room lies. Within the room, you can find a Sarcophagus that can be opened through a quick interaction. Before you may open the coffin and free Withers in Baldur’s Gate 3, you must defeat a few enemies. Since this fight is so early on in the game, it will only take a little while to unlock the sarcophagus.

You can speak with him once you’ve freed Withers from his sarcophagus. While it may be helpful for you to gain all the information you can from Withers, you don’t need to speak with him a lot. Just talk to him, invite him to your camp if the option becomes available, then head back home for a long rest after the fight you just completed. When you return to your campsite, Withers will await you.

Additionally, even if you don’t find him in the Dank Crypt, Withers might appear in your camp after you have had to revive one of your party members or reach a certain level as well.

Once you return to camp and speak with Withers, he will tell you about Hirelings, lost souls that he will allow to aid you in your journey for some coin. Each Hireling costs 100 coins and can be added to your party or left behind at the camp. However, you can only recruit a Hireling if you have filled three or fewer party slots since the max party size is four, and Hirelings automatically join your party.

  • Bard
  • Cleric
  • Druid
  • Fighter
  • Monk
  • Paladin

Once you’ve recruited a Hireling in Baldur’s Gate 3, it will act as a party member you can play as and control, just like any others.

Jordan is an experienced fantasy writer who spends hours behind her laptop, and lost in the pages of a book. She strives to be a successful gaming blogger, and has no complaint about the hours of game time she used to increase her knowledge of all things “geek”. She primarily writes gaming articles and fantasy novels. Ark: Survival Evolved is a favorite, along with Diablo 3, Warframe and Minecraft lately, though you can’t forget the good old Magic the Gathering card game! Writing about games truly gives her joy as it gives her another perspective to look at games from, a reason to really look into the mechanics of the game.
