The death of Moon Knight is almost upon us, and Marvel is working to get readers ready for the big event. Jed Mackay and Alessandro Cappuccio’s Moon Knight series has breathed new life into the Marvel character. Now, the Avenger’s writer is taking that breath away with an upcoming three-issue event. Spanning issues #28 – #30, this event will bring Marc Spector’s current era to a climactic end. So, to prepare readers, Marvel has unveiled Federico Sabbatini’s cover artwork for the penultimate Moon Knight #29.
The Death of Moon Knight
Beginning in October, Moon Knight heads down the path that will ultimately lead to his demise. Last month, Marvel announced the “Last Days of Moon Knight” event for the character’s current run. While the end of Marc Spector is sure to break some fan’s hearts, this is not necessarily the end of Moon Knight. The creators have hinted that this will lead to a new chapter of the franchise. Plus, we all know it is hard to keep a Marvel character dead for too long.
Teasing The Death of Moon Knight Event
To get fans ready for the death of Moon Knight, Marvel unveiled the cover for issue #29 this week. The issue shows off the gorgeous work of swing artist Federico Sabbatini as he puts Moon Knight against the Black Spectre. Inside the issue, the two battle it out for the fate of the city. However, this fight comes with a cost. Will Moon Knight and co. be able to stop Spectre in time? Even if they can stop them, what price will they pay?
Speaking to Marvel, series writer Jed MacKay shared that almost “all the pieces” are on the board. On one side of the table, you have Moon Knight and his allies. On the other you have Black Spectre, his creatures, and a terrifying plan for New York. This is building towards an epic showdown and one that will irrevocably change the landscape of Moon Knight comics. After all, MacKay shares that he has been building to this event since issue #19.
It all kicks off in Moon Knight #28 in October.
