Similar to games like Dead by Daylight, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre pits a team of survivors against a team of ruthless Killers, and another player controls every single one. As such, their actions prove somewhat unreliable and unpredictable. But with some foresight, it’s entirely possible to either escape from the farm altogether or ensure no one escapes. Jumping straight in, however, is a recipe for disaster. The map is confusing. The mechanics, while simple on the surface, may feel complex to some. These tips and tricks for beginners in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre should help both Victims and Killers enjoy the asymmetrical multiplayer game to its fullest.

Playing as the Victims is arguably the toughest team in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. It’s also one of the most entertaining. While it’s definitely fun to hack and slash wildly with a chainsaw as Leatherface, nothing beats the fear and tension of sneaking through the basement, avoiding bone traps while trying to find the escape. Still, it’s a tense and confusing experience and one that begs for a few tips and tricks for Victims in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

  • Create a Plan: If you’re playing with friends in voice chat, then make a thorough plan before joining the game. Which exit method will you race toward? Pressure Valve, the Generator, or what about the Fuse? It’s important to know so that the entire team can work toward a single objective and escape.
  • Study Attributes: Every Victim has unique attributes, including Toughness, Endurance, Strength, Proficiency, and Stealth. Choose a Victim that best suits your playstyle. Someone high in Stealth can more easily sneak through traps and past Killers, while high Strength allows the Victim to brute force situations and attack Killers directly.
  • Watch Out for Grandpa: While Grandpa is totally immobile, he does prove more than a nuisance to Victims. When the Killers feed Grandpa blood, his powers grow, and he can reveal the location of any moving Victim. Furthermore, in the very beginning, Grandpa is fast asleep. He awakes when Victims make noise escaping the basement. When he does wake and activate his power, remain still. At level 5, Grandpa can spot everyone on the map, no matter whether you move or not.
  • Avoid Traps: The entire map is littered with various traps, including bone decorations and chickens. When disturbed, these traps display your location on the map, and every Killer in the vicinity will beeline for you. Some traps you cannot avoid easily, while others simply mean taking an extended path around.
  • Pick Up Tools: You’ll need various tools to escape, pick locks, and quiet traps, like the chickens. These tools can save your life and ensure you escape successfully, so do not hesitate to pick one or two up whenever discovered.

Conversely, playing The Texas Chain Saw Massacre as the Killers is more of a rollercoaster than a haunted house. It’s thrilling, somewhat frantic, and often adrenaline-pumping. But the Victims are sneaky, and Killers can easily miss out on an opportunity for a quick kill. These The Texas Chain Saw Massacre tips for Killers should help new players successfully track down Victims and leave them in the dust.

  • Set Traps: While playing as The Hitchhiker, you can set traps along key routes and near objectives. Use these to your advantage. It can throw off an entire escape plan and force the Victims deeper into the map instead of to the outside edges where the escape routes sit.
  • Don’t Fret Injuries: While yes, the entire goal of The Texas Chain Saw Killer, while playing as the Killers, is to kill the Victims, it’s the journey to get there that matters most. If you injure a Victim, but they escape, don’t fret. That injury can go a long way, and a beginner Victim may not heal in time, which will ultimately lead to a kill anyway. Furthermore, injuries put pressure on the entire team, as they now have a weak link preventing them from successfully escaping.
  • Use Padlocks: Much of the map is locked off in the beginning, especially the basement, but Killers can use padlocks while playing as The Cook to corral Victims along different paths. You can use this tactic to ambush Victims, which works especially well when both The Cook and Leatherface work together.
  • Feed Grandpa: Scattered about the map you’ll note bags of blood dripping into pans. Scoop these up and return to Grandpa to feed him, which will then level him up and lead to additional benefits for the Killers. The higher Grandpa’s level, the more likely his ability is to reveal Victims’ locations.
  • Use Your Abilities: Every Killer comes with a unique ability. For example, The Cook can listen to the surrounding area and hear the Victims. Use these abilities to your advantage to track down and deal damage to nearby Victims. Or, use them in tandem with another Killer on the team for the ultimate conclusion to the match.
