The Price Is Right’s Bob Barker Confirmed Dead at 99
On Saturday, August 26, Bob Barker’s longtime publicist Roger Neal confirmed he was dead in a statement to Fox News, describing the 19-time Emmy Award winner as the greatest MC who ever lived. The statement, released on behalf of the late star’s girlfriend Nancy Burnet, read,
“It is with profound sadness that we announce that the World’s Greatest MC who ever lived, Bob Barker has left us.”
According to Roger, who became his publicist in 1987, Bob Barker died this week in his home in Hollywood Hills. The publicist attributed his death to natural causes. Shortly after the announcement, Bob’s girlfriend Nancy released a statement of her own, reflecting on his impact on her life and the rest of the world. She recalled how Bob Barker advocated against animal cruelty, ultimately keeping many animals from wounding up dead or abused. She wrote,
“I am so proud of the trailblazing work Barker, and I did together to expose the cruelty to animals in the entertainment industry including working to improve the plight of abused and exploited animals in the United States and internationally. We were great friends over these 40 yrs. He will be missed.”
Although dead, Bob Barker’s legacy will forever live on through his works like The Price Is Right among others. Notably, the game show host, born in Darrington, Washington on December 12, 1923, has explored various career pursuits. He served in the Navy during World War II but retraced his steps back to the world of entertainment.
His career has seen him work in radio, before joining NBC as the host of the TV adaptation of Truth or Consequences, originally a radio game show. He maintained the gig for 20 years until its cancellation in 1965. Thereafter, Bob Barker established himself as the renowned host of The Price Is Right for the next 35 years. He continued making waves on the game show, creating several record-breaking feats along the way until his 2007 retirement and eventual death.
