It may take a few seconds to recognize him, but yes, that is Adam Driver in the Enzo Ferrari biopic that released a teaser trailer today (seen below). The film will follow the Star Wars actors in the shoes of the Italian sports car entrepreneur. He will be joined by Penélope Cruz, Shailene Woodley (Big Little Lies), Sarah Gadon (Letterkenny), Patrick Dempsey (Grey’s Anatomy), and Jack O’Connell (The North Water).
Ferrari Trailer Sees Adam Driver as Enzo Ferrari in Biopic
The Ferrari trailer has almost no dialogue until the final moment. Much of it is eerie music that crescendos while we hear the roar of classic sports cars. The clips shown give a glimpse into the drama, grief, and racing that will take place throughout the film. Much of that pain comes from a crash that killed nine people, leading to manslaughter charges that were later dismissed. In the final moment of the teaser, we hear the leading star say, “If you get into one of my cars, you get in to win.”
Michael Mann (Heat) directed and co-wrote the film with the late Troy Kennedy-Martin (The Italian Job). The story is based on the biography Enzo Ferrari — The Man, The Cars, The Race, The Machine by Brock Yates. While Mann has kept himself busy as a producer, he has not directed a film since 2015’s Blackhat.
When the film revs its engine to prepare for an Oscar season release, it will drive smoothly without strike disruptions. As WGA and SAG-AFTRA union members fight for fair pay, no interference from AI, and better conditions, Ferrari can go full speed ahead with its marketing campaign with upcoming interviews and another trailer. As Neon distributes the film, it will not cross the picket line due to the studio’s independence. Other independent films have been able to be promoted or continue production due to passes of not being tied to major studios.
Ferrari will be released on December 25, 2023.
