Starfield has several weapons that you will carry around as you travel. If they are ranged weapons, they likely have mods that improve their performance. You can create a variety of mods at a Weapons Workbench, which can be found in several locations in every star system. But one type of weapon mod is particularly difficult to craft, which are muzzle mods. Muzzle mods are blocked off and can’t be readily made, unlike other weapon mods. If you are thinking about creating something like a silencer for your weapon, this mod is essential. Here’s how to unlock muzzle mods in Starfield and start putting them onto your guns.

Unlocking Muzzle Mods In Starfield

You might notice that not every muzzle mod in Starfield is inaccessible in the beginning. You can install a compensator on a pistol as an example. However, mods such as a muzzle brake will be unavailable until you get Muzzle Mods 1 researched. That’s your first clue to unlocking muzzle mods, since most of your new technology will be unlocked through research. Fortunately, there is a Research Station in your ship that you can utilize for this purpose.

When you arrive at your Research Station to unlock the Muzzle Mod 1 research, you will notice that it is blocked off. You need the Weapon Engineering skill, which is an Advanced Skill, before you can start creating those mods. That means you must spend at least four points in the Science Tree before Weapon Engineering is available. Fortunately, you only need the first rank of Weapon Engineering before you can create muzzle mods in Starfield.

Even if you unlock Muzzle Mods 1 as a research topic and work your way down, you still need materials. All weapon mods must be crafted before they can be equipped onto a gun. Fortunately, by the time you have spent Skill Points in Science, you should have a sizeable amount of materials. With the proper research, you should be able to find locations that carry the materials you need. All that’s left is to actually go out and start harvesting the materials, which then go into your mod. Muzzle mods in Starfield open up another area of customization that can make a difference, especially if you want a stealthy ranged build. Now that you know how to unlock them, you can get started and make your ranged build a reality.
