The Freestar Rangers are a faction in Starfield but they don’t have the easiest recruitment process. You may have joined other factions, such as the UC Vanguard or Ryujin Industries, but there’s no harm in joining another. However, the process of joining the Rangers requires some exploration and mission work. But once you get those out of the way, you can finally start taking the unique quests related to the faction. Having the Freestar Rangers on your side is a good thing, even if it does take more time than other factions. Here’s what you need to do to join the Freestar Rangers in Starfield.

Head to the Cheyenne star system and go to the planet Akila. Look for Akila City and land there. If it is your first time there, you will learn of a bank robbery which is the Job Gone Wrong quest. After completing Job Gone Wrong, speak to Marshal Daniel Blake and he will direct you to The Rock. It’s the Freestar Rangers’ HQ which is not far from the bank.

Go inside and speak to Emma Wilcox. Completing Job Gone Wrong allows you to skip one part of the recruitment process, but you still need one more step. Go to the nearby terminal and take any of the Ranger missions there. The mission you take is random and isn’t necessarily going to be the same as another player’s. Complete the mission and return to Emma, who introduces you to the Marshal who leads the Freestar Rangers in Starfield.

You will be informally inducted into the Freestar Rangers, though you still have one more mission to complete. Emma herself will join you as a companion for that mission. Upon completing the mission, you will finally be inducted into the faction and get the relevant achievement. This allows you to participate in the unique missions and have Emma as a companion for your party.
