The classic Ghost/Grass-type Pokemon Phantump arrives in the Kitakami region thanks to The Teal Mask DLC. First seen back in Pokemon X and Y, Phantump resembles a spooky, haunted tree stump, and it seems many players are eager to add it to their Pokedex once more. It’s not a hard companion to catch, but it’s evolution can be tricky as trust is a factor. If you want to catch Phantump and evolve it in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, we’ll track its locations and detail its evolution requirements.

Phantump is a common Pokemon, so it shouldn’t take you too long to catch one so you can later evolve it. Not only can you get one in 3-star Tera Raids, but you can also check the bamboo forest and the Timeless Woods. Living up to its ghostly half, Phantump comes out at night. As long as you check around wooded and grassy areas, you can find a Phantump.

Once we catch Phantump in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, we can work to evolve it into Trevenant. Luckily, Phantump only has a two-stage evolution, so it’s done after we get Trevenant. It’s getting Trevenant that can become a tough situation.

You can only evolve Phantump into Trevenant by trading with another player. It’s a quick process. The second the trade is complete, the other player will witness Phantump’s evolution. There’s nothing more anyone else needs to do. Except, that is, trade the newly evolved Pokemon back to you. And that is where the trust comes into play.

Tips on How To Evolve Phantump

When it comes to trading Phantump, you only have two options:

  • Trade with a friend locally
  • Trade with friends and other Trainers online

If you don’t have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, the only thing you can do to evolve Phantump is to exchange locally. This may be the most surefire way to receive your Trevenant back.

Of course, you can still trade with others online, as plenty of trustworthy Trainers are willing to help. You can always check out places like PokemonTrades on Reddit to discover forums with people ready to trade numerous Pokemon. Just take care that you can truly trust them. Otherwise, you may stand to lose out on your Trevenant.

If you don’t want to evolve Phantump at all, you can save yourself some time and instead directly catch a Trevenant. It’s a rarer spawn than Phantump and might only show up around the Timeless Woods. Similar to Phantump, Trevenant only comes out at night.
